UPC Codes for Amazon FBA Sellers

If you're launching a product on Amazon FBA, you need a GTIN — and unless you qualify for an exemption, that means a UPC or EAN barcode. Do Amazon FBA sellers need a UPC barcode?

Yes, with one exception. Amazon requires a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) for every product listing unless you apply for a GTIN exemption. UPC-A codes are the standard GTIN for US products. If you're selling a product you've manufactured or sourced yourself, you need a UPC. If you're reselling an existing branded product, you use the brand's existing barcode — not a new one.

What Amazon actually accepts

Amazon accepts barcodes from legitimate third-party providers, provided the codes come from original GS1/UCC-issued prefixes.
