UPCBay

UPCBay vs Nationwide Barcode

Both UPCBay and Nationwide Barcode resell legacy UPC prefixes issued before 2002. They use the same legal framework to sell codes with no renewal fees. The main differences are in bulk pricing structure, site transparency, and customer support.

Quick verdict

If you need single codes, both work. But for bulk purchases (10 to 100 codes), UPCBay is much more affordable and provides direct access without registration hurdles. If you need clean, instantly delivered data files, UPCBay is the simpler choice.

Pricing differences

Nationwide Barcode charges $12 for a single UPC, scaling to $35 for 10 codes, and $110 for 100 codes. UPCBay pricing starts at $8 for 1 code, drops to $20 for 10 codes, and is only $45 for 100 codes. For sellers launching multiple product variations or building a catalog, the cost savings with UPCBay accumulate quickly.

Registry trace and prefix source

Both companies sell codes originating from prefixes assigned by the Uniform Code Council (UCC) before the August 2002 class action settlement. This means the prefixes are owned by the original buyers and can be legally subdivided. Checking either code in the Verified by GS1 database will return the name of the original prefix holder, not your business. This is normal behavior for all reseller barcodes.

Amazon Brand Registry guidelines

If you are applying for Amazon Brand Registry, Amazon expects the brand name on your listing to match the prefix owner name in the GS1 database. Neither UPCBay nor Nationwide Barcode can satisfy this requirement. If you are selling under Brand Registry, you must lease a prefix from GS1 directly. If you are not using Brand Registry, both UPCBay and Nationwide Barcode codes work without issue.
